Remembering a film I saw when I was kid called ‘The last of the Mohicans’ which is a story describing the involvement of indigenous Indians in the war between Britain and France for the fight over the benefits of American colonies in 1757. According to record, there are around 25 million Indians killed by white people during the colonial period of the 16th century. Unfortunately, the Indians had no written languages, their language and culture were gradually forgotten. Even though the historical records of Indian culture are quite insufficient, Indians began producing handicrafts and jewelry as early as the 11th century. They did not know how to write, but they passed down the technique of traditional craftsmanship to the chiefs of later generations through oral narration even till now. They truly involve art as the spirit of ethnics indeed. This tradition has a profound influence on modern fashion culture. For example, silverware brands like Goro’s and Cody Sanderson have inherited the spirit of the traditional Navajo. (Navajo is the largest surviving Indian ethnic group in North America today). #FLIPPOS design The design of the Indian chief and the eagle appears to commemorate Indians who died in the ‘North American Indian War’, when the hosiery is folded, which means that their souls are flying with the eagle in the sky with everlasting spirit. |
